Internship Experience | Spime | Trimble Inc.
Spime is an internal software and design service provider division within Trimble Inc Enterprise.
Working with the Spime design team, I got to be in various projects within the Spime Team.
One of the first things that I worked on was to learn Low Poly Design.
To take reference from real photo and make a low poly sketch, then later taking it to digital platform to fine tune the low poly sketch a bit better, and finally making the 3D Model Low Poly Design.
This is served as a purpose of learning for designing 3D iconography for Mixed Reality Program.
On successful completion of this process, I conducted a Low Poly Design Workshop for the other team members in office which was a success.
Mixed Reality Program using Microsoft Hololens involved the design team in designing 3D Menu Interactions including designing the 3D iconography. Right from ideation of mixed reality interaction, rough video prototyping, after effects animation video prototypes to final execution of the prototype in Unity, we were actively involved in the process.
My role in this project as follows
- Ideation | Research | Comparative Study
- Information Architecture for the Menu Interaction
- Designing Cube themed 3D Iconography
- After Effects based Video Prototype for Flashlight
- Unity Prototype of 3D Icons
- Interaction with Spime Team Developers for proper implementation.
This project has been the most exciting and enriching one, getting to learn something new about it everyday through trial and error, and also got to know a lot more technologically.
Mining based navigation system project for TMX Tablets is one of the Spime's Project ongoing for the past 3 years. It provided me a tough challenge in terms of getting to understand the whole system but being an engineer previously, it eased my ability to quickly grasp the knowledge and quickly provide UI / UX solutions and implemented new features with ease along with the help of developers.
Architecture layout based project for tablet incorporated new features and I was part of the team in ideation process of the user scenarios and also in designing the visual screens and information architecture.
ARKit based project for measurement. This project is a very new one and I was actively involved in designing and sketching the user scenario.
Web e-commerce based project where I actively assisted in helping my design team with visual design and information architecture, especially for review cart subscription.
Mobile application based project where I actively assisted in helping my design team with high fidelity wireframe.
Mobile application based project where I actively assisted in helping my design team with high fidelity prototype using invision and craft.
The Spime Design Team was in-charge for creating introductory presentation for Trimble Tech Conference 2017 held in Helsinki. One of the crazy ideas we had was that we decided to create a 3D World Trimble City and animate them in Unity for the presentation. I played an active role in creation of the 3D characters and placing them in the Trimble City.
I also actively created visuals for the tech presentations which were presented from Spime Team in the Trimble Tech Conference.
During this internship, I got to participate in Trimble Hackathon conducted globally across all Trimble offices. During this hackathon, I took this opportunity to do a low fidelity of video prototype of my graduation project which I am currently working in association with Spime where they provide technical support. My graduation project would be explained indepth in a seperate project folder. Below I have attached the video which I made during the hackathon.
Thus, to sum it up, during my six months internship in Spime, Trimble, I actively participated in various projects. One of my biggest achievement during this internship was to actively involve myself in 6 projects and successfully complete them within 6 months excluding my work on graduation project.
I thank all the members of design team for their support.
